The nucleus of fact is situated on a small rocky peninsula, with a more or less symmetrical, characteristic for its three bays separated by a colon:
greased San Francisco, facing east, steep, rocky sharply raised and this is where you can find the medieval center, since this part of the peninsula offered the best security requirements. In this part, full of narrow streets, stairways and arches, we find the most prestigious historic buildings (Church of St. Francis Cathedral).
Punta di Santa Croce, to the north, lower. In this area, relatively flat, the town began to expand only to the nineteenth century. The formation of new districts then took the life of the country (new city hall, city park, the church of Santa Croce, etc.) Always gravitated more towards this side. It is from this part you can find the port of Vieste, still important for fisheries activities and sea transport to Tremiti Islands, Croatia and towards Manfredonia.
Coast ViesteTra the two points we find the small beach of Marina Piccola, facing the lighthouse (when bathing prohibition applies). At the southern tip of San Francisco you can find the long sandy beach of Pizzomunno that starts with limestone rocks on which was built in the city and extends south in the direction of Pugnochiuso. To the west of the tip of Santa Croce, however, he finds himself as the long beach of San Lorenzo, which, unlike the first is still rich enough to beaches. Start from the urban area built from the nineteenth century (the harbor) to extend westward in the direction of Fish.

It is said that at a time when the current city was only a village of huts on fire and inhabited by fishermen, there lived a tall and strong name Pizzomunno. In the same village also lived a girl of rare beauty, with long hair the color of the sun called Cristalda
The young couple fell in love, loving each other madly without that nothing could separate them. Pizzomunno Every day we face the sea with his boat and promptly emerged from the waves of the sea sirens to sing sweet songs in honor of the fisherman. The sea creatures did not just sing, but the look of prisoners Pizzomunno immortality offered him several times if he agreed to become their king and lover. The love that poured on the young Cristalda, however, made it unnecessary offers of sirens.
One of the many nights when the two lovers were waiting for the night on the island that sits off the coast, the mermaids, caught by a fit of jealousy, Cristalda attacked and dragged into the depths of the sea. Pizzomunno chased in vain the voice of his beloved. The next day the fishermen found themselves transfixed by pain in the young white rock that still bears his name.
Legend has it that every hundred years, yet beautiful Cristalda back from the abyss to reach his young lover for one night and relive their old love.
Variants of the legend wants that the name of Vesta or young person is Vieste (thus tying the name of the city to this legend), or they want the pretty girl was the daughter of a sea goddess who was opposed to the love with the young Vieste their feeling that this was punished. Other variations on the theme they want the girl was the wife of Pizzomunno and was attacked while on the beach waiting for the return of fellow fisherman.
